Sullivan on Parker

According to Sullivan, Parker isn’t for sale, not in any circumstances. Has he put himself in an impossible position with this declaration? Could well have, I think.

Every player has his price, so what if a bid comes in that’s just too good to turn down, say £15m-£20m? Good a player as Parker is, that sort of money would have to be seriously considered. Given that we already have in effect a replacement midfielder in Hitzlsperger (not quite the same sort of player but similar), who has apparently impressed in pre-season games, we could use the money to strengthen other parts of the side. A decent right-back wouldn’t go amiss for a start, neither would a decent striker to partner Cole.

Then there’s the possibility that Parker could have his head turned by another club, and want out. If we then insist he stays and it affects his form, we may well regret turning down the bid.
