Parker’s Late Show

You pretty much know what to expect whenever we play a lower-league side in the cups. It usually ends up somewhere between a bit embarrassing and very embarrassing. Fortunately, last night was at the lower end of the scale of embarrassment. Although the stats will show that we only progressed due to a late, late goal from Parker, we pretty much dominated the game without being totally convincing. Only a string of missed chances kept Oxford in the game. Piquionne was the main culprit, missing enough good chances to bag a hat-trick.

Ben-Haim made his debut, and looked comfortable and composed (apart from a couple of dodgy passes). Stech also featured in goal and looked good, took crosses well (he’s a big unit) and made one top save. Parker and Noble had centre-mid wrapped up, but possession was not always put to good use by the rest of the team. Sears and Stanislas didn’t look up to it, even though they were up against league 2 opponents.

Oxford brought about 4,000 fans, and they supported their team very well throughout the evening. Pity the same can’t be said for a large part of the home support.

Got held up by damn roadworks on the M11 link going home. Took me 20 minutes to go half a mile. Good job there wan’t extra time as well, otherwise it would have been a very late return home.

Man Ure next – maybe we can nick a win up there! Or is that an airborne Benni McCarthy I see before me? 🙂
