Der Hammer

What a difference Hitzlsperger is making to the West Ham side. Apart from the obvious aspect of his thunderous shooting, epitomised by his goal against Stoke yesterday, his passing, movement and work-rate is classy. It’s enabled Noble to expand his game (his passing yesterday was top drawer) and has taken some of the load off Parker’s shoulders.

The ability of Demba Ba to find the back of the net has also seemed to mentally free up Carlton Cole, who seems to be benefitting from the fact that he is no longer having to shoulder the goal-scoring burden.

Parker reminded me of that character in Monty Python’s Holy Grail that keeps on fighting even though he’s lost all his limbs. Starting the game still carrying the shoulder injury that he picked up in training, he took a hefty crash into the advertising hoardings, but was soon back in the action. Then he took another knock to the shoulder which looked like it might be the end of his day, but he carried on and still found the energy to help set up the 3rd goal.

The 3-0 win over Stoke has lifted us out of the bottom 3, but with some tough games coming up it’s going to be hard to stay out of it. But we’re scoring goals and that always gives you a chance.
